What’s Your Favourite Ice Cream?

Day 86 - Project 365 - 26th Mar 08 : BANANA SPLITWhen we chatted about each other’s collections, I was really fascinated with people’s stories - and personal tidbits. So, I thought I’d continue with threads like that here. Like friends, talking and sharing.

And since, I’m off preparing for my baby girl’s first birthday today, I thought maybe we can talk about ice cream. Especially since I seem to be loving them lately.

My all-time favourite ice cream is Rocky Road. But, I don’t get them here in Australia. At least, not in the shops I buy from. If I want Rocky Road, I have to make it myself - with chocolate ice cream, mini marshmallows, and crushed unsalted nuts or cashew.

Anyway, lately, I’ve been craving for Cornetto ice cream. I think I ate one a day for about a week recently.

And, the photo you see here is my own version of a banana split sundae - Neopolitan + whipped cream + crushed cashews + banana + chocolate syrup.

Other ice cream flavours I’ve enjoyed include: Almost anything Chocolate (of course), Strawberry, Mango, Avocado (I only ever had them in Manila, though), and Macadamia (especially Haagen Dazs).

What about you? Do you like ice cream? Which flavours do you like best?

To kick things off,

I’m a huge fan of Chocolate and Peanut Butter by 31 Flavors, simply amazing!

Jonathan: Chocolate and Peanut Butter icecream? Wow. Never tried one of those before. Now I’m gonna have to see if we get them here in Oz. If I don’t find it, you’ll owe me one next time we see each other. ;-)

I’m not really an ice cream person but when Selecta came out with a ChocNut flavored one, I fell in love with it, ate it almost daily. I had to tell the people at home not to restock. Otherwise, I woudn’t be able to control myself.

Em Dy: Seriously? ChocNut flavour? I should’ve looked out for it when I was in Manila last November. Hmmm… I wonder what ChocNut ice cream tastes like?

I’m a total sucker for mint chocolate chip… french crisp comes in at a close second… but I also love Breyer’s Natural Vanilla with all the flecks of vanilla seeds in them.
Gee, thanks, Shai… now you got me craving ice cream… (off to raid the freezer)… :)

Nenette: You know I love chocolate… and I love mints. But somehow, I can never get the hang of chocolate mint together. Weird. I wonder what French Crisp is like?

Hmmm… so, did you end up eating some ice cream? ;-)

I love rum and raisin. Vanilla with fresh or stewed fruit (my fave at the moment is rhubarb) comes a close second though. Mmmm, mmmmm.

Shai Coggins reply on March 31st, 2008:

jen: Never tried any of those before! Well, except vanilla with fruit, perhaps. But nope - never had rhubarb either. Ergh. Do you have any favourite ice cream brands here in SA?

Kari: Really? You don’t have a sweet tooth? I wonder why you’ve suddenly gone ice cream crazy? Must be something in the air. Heh. Anyway, I’ve never had Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - but it sounds like my kind of flavour. Now I want to try it too! :-D

Mmm, how long is a piece of string? I’m not sure I have one favourite. I just know that sometimes I’m in the mood for Cadbury’s Caramello or Choc Chip, other times just vanilla or chocolate. I don’t like soft serve icecream, though. It has to be the scooped variety. I’m also quite partial to sorbet and gelati. Yumm. I want some now. ;-)

Heather: Hehe. I can empathise about finding which is “the best” flavour. :-) Admittedly, never tried Cadbury’s Caramello. So now, I’ll be watching out next time I go ice cream shopping. Heh. I’m not big on soft serve either. But, I can eat them still. I hardly ever crave for them though. I’d rather have a Magnum Almond. ;-)

vanilla for me. boring i know. but i love love it in all variations. over a brownie. on top of halo-halo. afloat a rootbeer. or simply served over waffle cones.

on days when i want something different, i always go for Macadamia :)

sushi: That’s the beauty of vanilla. It works well with all sorts of other sweet stuff - brownies, cake, fruit… ;) Yum!

I’m not a huge ice cream fan but occasionally I will get a craving for a scoop of Coffee Häagen-Dazs ice cream in a cup of chocolate milk.

Shai Coggins reply on April 7th, 2008:

Moe: Before this post, I never realised how many non-ice cream fans are out there. And - that does sound like a yummy combination. Should give it a go one day. Except, I haven’t seen Haagen-Dazs here in Oz. Hmmm…

Moe reply on April 7th, 2008:

I guess there are just so many other options out there. It definitely is a good option. I don’t know what it is with HD. It disappeared for a while here and then came back 3 bucks more. Now it’s definitely only a treat and usually only if it goes on sale. :) Although I have to admit I have broken down on occasion and paid full price. Good think chocolate milk is cheap.

My favorite ice cream flavors are avocado, rocky road, strawberry (only if it has lots of strawberry bits) and mango! Yum!
