Weak Link

On the web front, one of my weakest points is web design. I know enough to troubleshoot most stuff. I can create web pages, hack existing templates, I can understand CSS to a certain level, etc. — but I know I’m no web designer.

But, I definitely appreciate good design. And, slowly, I’m trying to teach myself how to become a better web designer. (But then, I’m always wanting to become better at everything… so who knows if it’s ever going to happen? ;-))

Anyway, I was getting a bit annoyed with my previous blog template/theme due to some viewing issues - both on IE and Firefox. I like the overall look of the design, but some of the existing codes do funny things to my font sizes. The worst thing is that it makes things really tiny — to the point that text becomes readable only if you use a magnifying glass. And, who would want to do that?

I tried and tried to edit the CSS and the templates. To no avail.

So, in the end, I decided to get myself a new blog skin. This is it. I like it. And, it seems to work well on Firefox. But, it keeps getting buggered when viewed on IE. I keep getting the error message: “Done, but with errors on page,” when I load the pages. And, some pages don’t show up completely. I’ve been trying to troubleshoot but I’m stumped.

That’s why I’m posting this now as a cry for help. Are there any web design geniuses out there who can tell me how to fix this IE-viewing issue? Pretty please?

Hi Shai,
Thanks for dropping by my blog and leaving a comment. I was and am in favor of your post. :) I wish to help you solve the problem. But I’m not a techie. I just want to lead you to a link.

When I opened your blog with IE (6.0), there seemed no problem. But when I reopened it, your right sidebar dropped down below your content. However, strangely when I did refresh, all of sudden your right sidebar reappeared in the right position.
So, if this is your problem, it is related to IE bug not your CSS. I know we can’t fix IE bug. The CSS should deal with this bug. Check http://www.pmachine.com/forums/viewthread/14004/. Though the topic is not exactly same as your problem, the solution may be yours too.
If not, ask for help in that forum because it’s about expressino engine forum.
Hope this can be of help.
Thanks

Ryen: You’re welcome. ‘glad to “meet” you. :-)
And, I’m happy that I did - since you came here and provided help. I don’t know why I didn’t think of going to the forum first. I think because last time I went there, I didn’t get answers. Anyway, the link you provided did help (I think). I implemented the suggestion and the scrolling problem did appear to have been resolved. But, I’m still getting the “done with errors” message.

I posted the problem on the EE forums and I’m just hoping for the best now.

Thanks again!
