“To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.” - Lao Tzu
Over the last few years, the month of May has become a tough month for me.
Tomorrow is my late dad’s birthday. In a few days’ time, we will be commemorating the fifth year anniversary of his passing.
About this time last year, I also had to say goodbye to a job I once loved*.
It seems to me that I can’t go through this month without tears. Admittedly, I’m already wiping some away as I write this, especially as I re-read some old posts (and comments) like the ones I’ve linked to, as well as this and this.
Thankfully, last month’s refresh gives me some extra boost to help me to face this month with a bit more strength and positivity than I have done in previous years.
And, in my quest for Focus this year, I am looking to think about the concept of being still this month of May. That’s why I choose “still” as this month’s theme.
Usually, when we remember moments and people, when pay our respects, we often offer a moment of silence. Of stillness.
At the same time, when things seem to be going at a pace that we need to catch our breaths, we try to keep still. To slow down. To savour the moment.
That’s why this month, I am thinking of stillness.
“Learning how to be still, to really be still and let life happen – that stillness becomes a radiance.” – Morgan Freeman
* On the flip side, I got to start my new company, which has done incredibly well. Not to mention, getting the opportunity to experience more of that work-life balance that we all seem to long for. A good reminder that sometimes, goodbyes can lead to great things.
