Adelaide Christmas Pageant 2008 {Collage}

Today’s the annual Christmas Pageant here in Adelaide. So, my family had an early start, as we decided to take the train in to the City to watch the parade.

Hubby and I have been here for about 6 Christmases now. And, this was our fourth time to see the pageant. It was my boy’s 3rd time to watch and my li’l girl’s 2nd time. It’s interesting to see the different reactions each year. :-)

Anyway, even though it was a bit chilly and rainy, the kids still had a ball. And, that’s always a joy to see. Plus, the whole thing didn’t feel too overwhelming. Still, we were exhausted by the end of it.

I did manage to take some pics, as you can see the collage here. But, I decided not to upload everything on Flickr. At least, not yet.

The thing about being the unofficial ‘family photographer’ is that I end up having NO pics during these events. Every time we end up looking at these things, I’m hardly ever in front of the camera, if at all.

Well, I guess that’s why having self portraits help. And, writing of which, here are two self portraits that I took today during a quick session.

One’s a solo pic of me in black and white. And one’s of me and my girl. I really enjoyed the one that I did with us together. I took a few fun pics of us that turned out better than I expected. Hope you like them too…

i’m the “unofficial photographer” in the family too so I know what you mean. she’s all grown up, wow. and as pretty as her Mama :) .

Aw, thanks, Dexie. I hope you do still find ways to get some pics taken of you with the family. I find that tripods and remotes are handy things to have! They’re not always possible to use, but definitely good tools when I can set them up. :-)

I too carry the title of unofficial photographer with both my family and friends, so I have a new respect for self portraits.

The photos turned out really well! Your daughter is adorable and it makes me wish I was having as much fun as you two!

Hi Shai,

Your little girl is a carbon copy of you…

I’m usually not in family pictures too like you! It’s hard to be the unofficial photographer.

Shai Coggins reply on November 11th, 2008:

Thanks, JO. Funny how my girl has her daddy’s colouring but some of my features. :-) Anyway, yeah, it is a challenge. But, trying to find ways to get more pics – esp. with the kids. Hope you get to take more pics with you too!

My dad was the photographer in my family, and especially in film he’s missing in action.

Even if you do self-portraits, I encourage you all to make an arrangement with your spouse that one day each month or one day of a vacation trip he’ll play photographer, so that you’ll have photos and videos of you together with your children.

Shai Coggins reply on November 11th, 2008:

@Lynn – My dad was too. So, not many photos of him with us. Every now and then, I can hand the camera to my husband. But, since he’s usually the one carrying the kids, it’s a bit harder for him too. But, at least, I’ve learned to use tripods/remote to take more pics with me included. So, finding ways around being the unofficial family photographer. :-)
