On Blog Networks, Bullies and Bridges

Okay, I don’t really think of myself as “the boss” at AboutWeblogs.com. But yes, I am running it. So, I do get the choice of whether I wish to work with someone or not; and whether I wish to run a topic or not, among other things… It’s part of the perks and punishments of running a network. I don’t do it all on a whim, though. I do my homework and research when it comes to matching topics and bloggers.

And, my best privelege and hope: To work with really good bloggers that I like/admire/respect. And, to help them find a platform for their passions and to help them find profit in the process. (Okay, ’nuff alliteration… :-p)

Anyway, even within just a month, AboutWeblogs.com did get 11 really great bloggers on board, all of whom I’m proud and pleased to be working with. We have published authors, PhD and Masters degree holders, experts and active enthusiasts.

So, I just find it really strange when some people who apply to become part of the network (especially, uninvited) end up trying to:

a) Tell me what I should or shouldn’t do.

b) Diss me and/or the network.

c) Do both A & B.

… especially if things don’t seem to be going their way.

“It’s very important to build good relationships.” - Very rightly said Shai.

On Friday, I attended a conference on how to conduct effective mental health assessments, paid for by my employer. The instructor, a professional with a list of letters after his name and 20+ years of experience in his field, told us how his tenured position at a major university was eliminated. The moral of this story: We are all expendable.

Satish: Yes. But, I guess a lot of people forget it - or choose to ignore it.

Beth: Thanks for sharing. But, I’m just wondering how does the “moral of the story” relate to my post? As in, all of us being expendable? It may be due to lack of sleep right now, but I don’t get the connection.

Lack of sleep on my part! I actually misunderstood your post. When I first read it, I thought these people were working for you already. Duh!

Beth, thanks for getting back to me. Now I understand better. I thought I was just being daft. :)
