One can find refuge in silence. In it, I can hear myself think… I can feel myself breathe.
However, there are times when silence can be deafening. During these times, I feel like filling in the gaps with any possible sound. Anything seems better than nothing.
But then again, maybe not. I guess, I’d rather be reveling in meaningful silence than engaging in meaningless noise.

At times like these, even when everyone’s asleep, I still don’t have silence. Why? Cos my computer’s power supply is way too noisy!
What I normally do is just put on the headphones and rearrange my winamp playlist to suit the mood. And then a random song like Walking on Sunshine sneaks in and makes me happy again.

Hi Shai,
I love the moments of silence in my life. My days are too filled with noise from having so many people around me all day. I love to have doses of absolute quiet when all I can hear is the wind outside and the noises in my neighbourhood.

I’m a music teacher and it is always interesting to me how much we avoid silence. It is always harder to get students to play rests correctly. They always want to play through the silences, plowing into the next note.

krangsquared: LOL! Good thing a song can cheer you up!
Heather: I believe I understand exactly what you mean.
Jodie: Wow. Thanks for sharing. It’s true though that many people do find it easier to avoid silence. What you just shared is a great metaphor.
