Recently, I took on the role of acting Community and Content Editor at Nurse Uncut, which is a social networking site for… well, you guessed it – nurses. Mostly, Australian and/or Australia-based nurses, as well as those who may wish to familiarise themselves with the world of nursing in Australia. And, I’m pretty sure nurses who are outside of Australia will also find common interests and ideas from Nurse Uncut. This site is endorsed by the New South Wales (NSW) Nurses’ Association.

So, how did this come about?

Well, a few weeks ago, my good friend Christine asked me if I can help her out with Nurse Uncut whilst she goes away on a fabulous holiday. Thankfully, part of the time that she’ll be away is during grad school’s mid-semester break. That’s why I thought, why not? I can help out and get back in to doing some online community work again. As some of you might know, I’ve taken a bit of a break from doing such work. Not a complete break, mind you… but, a break nevertheless.

In any case, it’s just a month-long stint. And, I intend to have fun working with the nursing community. I hope that you will come and join me and the Nurse Uncut community.

If you’re based in Australia, do check out our current contest: Imagine a World without Nurses. No need to be a nurse to join in. Just put on your creative hats and submit an entry based on the theme. You might just get the chance to win a lovely holiday (worth over AU$2,000)!

If you’re interested in signing up and joining the community, please do so.

And, if you can help to spread the word, then that will be so great. Just Tweet, share on Facebook, email your friends/family who might be interested in the nursing community… Anything that you might be able to do to pass the message would really help.

In any case, I’m sure that I’ll be sharing more of my adventures about this gig some time. :-)

UPDATE:

Also join NurseUncut via Twitter (NU) and Facebook (NU). You can also add NurseUncut on LinkedIn and/or join NU’s LinkedIn Group.

And yes, NU is also looking for NSW-based nurses who might be interested in taking on the role of bloggers for three months. Deadline for applications is on 13th October 2009. Find out more here.
