Look of the Week: 250509

It’s my final week for the first semester at Uni, so I’m extremely time-challenged at the moment. That’s why I haven’t been online all that much lately. Blogging and social networking just have to be put aside for the time being as I try to complete mountain loads of assignments and final assessment presentations.

Yes, I can’t believe I’ve just about completed a full semester back in grad school. It has been exhausting and stressful, but exciting and fulfilling all at the same time. I’ve met some really interesting people and learned heaps. And, I’ve been rewarded with incredibly great marks (so far!). Also getting wonderful feedback from a few of my tutors/lecturers. So yes, as I said, I’m loving it. However, I’m also looking forward to my almost three-week break before I start teaching.

That’s right. I’m being allowed in a classroom mid-July as a student teacher for my first practicum. I’ll be co-teaching a Reception/Year 1 class (5 to 6 year olds) for about four weeks. Pretty much the same age range as my son’s class. I’ve done some school visits this term and I’m already taken with the kids. I know it will be quite a challenge, but I am looking forward to it. I’m sure that some days, I’d be flying high, and other days I’d be wondering what on earth I got myself into (felt this way and that during my visits!).

Anyway, I gotta run now ’cause I’ve got a few more major assessments I need to complete in the next few days. But, before I go, here’s another delayed “Look of the Week” notes (this time, doing fashion + photography notes):

Style Notes:

  • Black long-sleeved shirt/top (inside) – from Valley Girl
  • Brown polka-dotted sleeveless shirt-dress (?!) – No label, another hand-me-down from my sis
  • Black belt -Another no label item from dear sis
  • Brown pantsfrom S IS
  • Brown flat-heeled leather bootsNot sure where I got these from, as I bought them a few years ago. However, my guess is that I got them from Target. Found out that these are boots I bought from Wittner, my fave shoe shop.

Where To: School visit

Photography Notes:

Yes, this is another self-portrait series using my trusty ol’ Nikon D40x. For this series, I’ve tried to capture the look/style without taking a full-length photo. I wanted to see if I can communicate the whole effect of what I’m wearing by taking pics of each section of my “look”. One thing I liked about this series is that it proved how angles can make such a huge difference in communicating with photography. But, it is a bit of a challenge when you haven’t got all the gear you need. Having broken my 18-55mm kit lens, I’ve been using my Sigma 30mm f1.4 a lot more lately. I love this lens, but I find that taking full body length pics with this can be tough. And yes, unfortunately, it seems that my remote control has also lost its steam, so I’ve been doing the good old self-timing, mirror using and/or arm’s length photography with these self portraits. I’ve forgotten how tough it is to get a decent shot without my remote. I guess that’s another reason why I haven’t taken any other LOTW self portraits after this series. But, I’ll try to get back to it some time when I sort out my tech issues and such. For now, I have to make do with what I’ve got. :-)

Catch you all later!

Hugs and all the best of life to ‘ya,

Shai

Bought the brown polka-dot dress from a tiangge (flea market) here in Manila called Red Lane and the belt’s from local brand Ensemble.

Hey, I didn’t see that pair of boots last time I was there! Looks great! :D

Thanks, sis. Glad you shared this links too.

And yep, boots were around when you were last here. Probably didn’t use them much because it was summer. :-)

I love the boots, Shai. It seems to go well with any dress.
