Remember I recently wrote something about secrets? And, how I briefly alluded to why I actually tried to finish the diptych project in a hurry?
Well, let me just share this now, as it looks like we’re moving from this house (the house we built a couple of years ago and lived in for 2+ years as our “first real home”…):
To this house:
So, our (almost) brand new house is now going to be our ‘old house’. And, this older house is going to be our ‘new house’. Does that make sense?
In any case, it has been a roller coaster ride, this home selling and home buying journey. That’s why I hesitated to blog all about it. It was crazy. I didn’t realise what was involved in the whole thing — open inspections, contracts, losing out on contracts, building inspections, cooling off periods, tricky clauses, settlements, finance approvals… Not to mention all the emotional and psychological hassles that come with the deals… Ahhh… I definitely wouldn’t want to go through all that again any time soon.
Having said all that, we’re quite happy. Relieved. That it looks like it really is all going to happen. We’ll need to start packing. It’s a bit bittersweet. We love the house that we live in at the moment. We planned everything that went in it — from the brass doorknobs to the iceberg roses and Charles de Gaulle roses (with matching white and purple lavanders)… It’s the first house that we’ve owned as a family.
Yet, at the same time, we felt that it was time to make a move. We’re excited about the house that’s going to be ours in a few weeks’ time. We love the location and the feel of it. It’s an older house (and it might take a while to get used to older stuff after having been used to fancy new stuff) — but it’s got great character. Timber floors, fireplace, bigger land (hence, bigger garden)… Oh, and it’s about a 10-minute drive to great beaches nearby! So, there you go. ![]()
As soon as we get our heads around it, we ought to start packing.
I’ll let you know how it all goes.

Oh wow, moving. That does make sense. No wonder you’ve been so busy. Personally, I enjoy the character of older homes, anyway. After all the work it will feel worth it to enjoy all the benefits of having a home with a bigger yard and lovely location. Way cool.

While I agree moving is indeed a hassle, I have to say it’s always equally exciting having a ‘new’ to you place

We are actually moving this month as well, and are in quite a similar situation. Even with similar looking houses in both instances. We are moving from brand new construction that we have lived in for the past two years (complete with turret) … to an older, historic home (with construction planned for a new turret addition) …
It’s a roller coaster of emotions through the entire process, but I do believe it will all be worth it. We are excited about moving and I just wish we could wave a magic wand and have it all be done already. ;D
Great website by the way. I have you bookmarked and am going to add you to my list of links to read regularly.

Kudos and best of luck with the move.

Heather: Thanks. Yeah, that’s the nice thing about older homes. They have a bit more character that can’t be reproduced in newly built homes.
Hsien: Heh. Thanks for the thought anyway.
Sasha: Thanks. Yep — slowly unpacking and getting things cleared, renovating, etc. The boys are definitely enjoying the beach, though. Cam’s even learning how to body surf!!
Tingting: Will share photos when I can.
Bea: Thanks. Will do.
Michelle: Good luck with your move too! And, thanks for the bookmark and kind words. Looking forward to getting to know you better.
