Hello, 2008. And, Happy New Year to All!

New Year's Eve 2007 (Brighton Beach, S. Australia)

Had a fab time spending part of the New Year celebrations at Brighton beach today. The atmosphere was great. Even though we just spent a 42 degrees (celsius) scorcher of a day, the evening temperature was just right for the beachside party.

Moments like these show me why I love living in this country so much. Yet, at the same time, they remind me of what I miss about being away from family and friends I grew up with. In fact, Toni’s New Year post made me feel all nostalgic. Ah, but then, I’ve learned that one way to live a life of no regrets is to find joy exactly where I stand.

Anyway, I enjoyed taking plenty of photos. Loved my first ever decent fireworks display photography. So. Very. Happy. With my Nikon D40x.

Photos were all taken with just the kit lens (18 - 35 f/3.5-5.6 II). No flash. No post production editing (i.e., no Photoshop, etc.). Only tool I used was a tripod - and a bit of cropping (for some shots). Some of them didn’t turn out as sharp as I’d like them to be. But, since this is the first time that I managed to take fireworks photos like these, I’m quite stoked. Did I tell you yet how much I adore my D40x? Heh. Anyway, if you’re interested, you can also find more Fireworks Photos from New Year’s Eve 2007 in my Flickr account.

Kari: Thank you! Yeah, the D40x is really performing beyond my expectations at the moment. I mean, I read that many folks don’t even want to touch their kit lens all that much. But, the kit lens of this baby is so cool.

Toni: Hehe. Thanks! I hardly ever leave home without now. :-)
Noemi: Naks. Nice of you to say! Thank you. Well, if you ever decide to buy a new DSLR, I can definitely recommend the Nikon D40x. There are many many options out there though, and I’m sure you’ll find one that’s right for you. And yes, I’m SOOO happy to have met you too. Thanks so much for taking the time. And hopefully, that won’t be the last!
