Let’s see how fast (or slow) I can get an answer on this…
Anyway, someone pointed me towards the direction of AntiClown Media today. They seem to have a mini blog network running two other blogs: The Superficial (Because You’re Ugly) and The Republica (Because News Is Boring).
Admittedly, I’m not really a big fan of the subject matters covered by the said blogs. But, that never stopped me from trying to learn more about blogs that work and blogs that don’t work. And, based on the only publicly available SiteMeter stats of The Superficial:
Well, this one’s obviously working. At least on some levels. For one thing, they’re not very “sticky” (average visit length is only 8 seconds and no more than 1.5 pages per visit).
Anyway, I can’t seem to find anything about who runs these blogs, who writes them, etc. I even did a quick Google search and there’s zip. Nada. Well, nothing that helps me learn more anyway.
So, if you’re a better sleuth than I am - or if you have any connections - I’d love to hear from you. Maybe you can help enlighten me. And, if you don’t know squat either, perhaps you can help ask around too?

Write a Comment»Shai, I can’t say I know anything about either of these sites, or their creators, but if the stats are true, then a quick scroll through “The Superficial” proves that a large number of the web-surfing public are truly, truly, hungry for lame holywood-style gossip.
I’ll take the company of my Koi fish over a gossip-hound any day ; )

Guess what Shai? You just gave this site another traffic..haha..I can see the reason why they’re so effective..it’s all about stars.. People will go anywehere to dig up info about their favorite stars.

I know this is an old post, but here’s some info…
There are two writers who work on The Superficial, one of them being Karl Wang, aka Monkei, a comic artist. He started Anticlown, followed by The Superficial, then Hedonistica, and also The Republica. Karl is still associated with all of these, his co-writer is more illusive. The other person might be a gentleman by the name of Neil Gustavson who has worked on comics such as “Robot Stories” with Karl.
If you look over these sites, all of the editorials are written in the exact same style throughout.There’s definitely two people writing on The Superficial, they have mentioned each other in passing at different times (eg. Emmy & Oscars coverage, the posts differed)

Hi. I just wanted to say to Cary that I think you’re missing the point about the Anticlown sites. Maybe it just takes a certain sense of humor but the Superficial is not “lame hollywood style gossip” at all. In fact (if you actually read the site) it’s making fun of lame hollywodd style gossip.
I also thought people might want to know that Anticlown is hiring writers if anyone is interested in applying.
Karl Wang is a total woman hating jerk and The Superficial SUCKS!
