* Warning: Some spoilers here *
I’m no expert in House-isms. In fact, even though it’s one of my favourite TV shows, I haven’t really seen a lot of episodes.
Anyway, in Season 4 of House, he seemed to have lost his team (I have no idea how it all happened). And, it appeared that he needed to hire new folks to work for him. He ended up doing an on-the-job interview with several doctors. He fired them one by one to weed the applicants out. Towards the end of the episode, he ended up firing one of the female applicants (along with other folks). She came up to him and asked what she did wrong. She wanted to know why she was getting fired when other people stuffed things up more than she did and they were staying on. To which House replied with something like: “And you didn’t take any risks either.”
Right.
It is so much easier to stay on the ’safe side’ of life: No blogging about things that are way too controversial. Don’t make anything unless you absolutely know what you’re doing. Make sure that you just read and follow instructions. Don’t deviate. Don’t push too many buttons. Don’t waste those expensive materials.
But then, if we stay too safe - we also end up not innovating, not creating, not inventing… and sometimes, not even living. As in, really living.
It’s so easy to fall in to the “Make No Mistakes Trap”. I’ve already made the decision to avoid that trap, yet I still find myself falling in to it again and again. So, I had to keep telling myself over and over and over… That IT’S OKAY. Imperfections, mistakes, wrong moves… They’re essential.
No, I’m not talking about living a life of recklessness. It’s about taking that extra step… the courage to move towards dreams; the strength to face fears.
To stop ‘waiting for the perfect moment’ before we start to use our painting or crafting materials. To blog or write about things that aren’t too comfortable. To tell someone what we’ve always wanted to say. To work towards that career that we’ve been longing for.
Let’s not miss out just because we’re afraid to do something wrong.
“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent in doing nothing.” - George Bernard Shaw
“There can be no vulnerability without risk; there can be no community without vulnerability; there can be no peace, and ultimately no life, without community.” - M. Scott Peck
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain
Writing of House and risk-taking, b5media just launched Spekked.com, our Entertainment Gateway. And, there’s currently a contest, where folks can win an iPod Nano, DVD sets, or Netflix subscriptions (among others). Deadline’s the 19th of October 2007. Check it out and join in!

Yes without risks life just becomes boring routine. Introducing random actions in your life gives you freedom, makes life more exciting and bring about beneficial and unexpected outcomes.

I love House and I am in love with Dr House (the character though, not the actor). He lost his team cause he fired two and one quit but they’ll be back. I’m a calculated risk taker, hehehe. In short, segurista.

Kari: Hmmm…. you and House, huh?
Steve: Absolutely.
Kristyn: Hehe. Me too. For the most part. But, I do try to do some more daring risks every now and then.

hey, shai! in season 3 of house, house fired chase, cameron resigned, and foreman quit because he didn’t want to be like house — but he has turned into house, as evidenced in season 4 by his being fired at the new hospital after pulling a “house” move. anyway, tonight’s house episode had him giving 6 roses a la bachelor style to 6 of the 7 remaining contestants…err doctors ;o)

One of my favourite episodes was last season, 3 I guess, where he did surgery on an unborn baby still in her mother’s womb. That was a very touching scene.

Shery: Howdy! So good to hear from you again. It feels like ages since we last talked. How’s life treating you lately? Anyway, thanks for the House update. I saw that ‘Bachelor’-style episode last week. Looking forward to see this week’s episode.
Christina: Never saw that episode. Sounds like another good one!
