Just been watching some of the Live Earth coverage from different parts of the world. And, it reminded me of a few things:
An old college organisation I used to be somewhat involved in (ecowatch). My early understanding of sustainability. The real and present threat of global warming. My own puny efforts of making a difference in “greening the world.”
Sometimes, it’s just so much easier to bury our heads in the sand and pretend that none of these things are happening. That we’re not really facing a worldwide challenge.
But, can we really deny that something’s amiss?
Yes, the problem’s huge. Yes, it’s all way too difficult to solve. Yes, it seems like that whatever we do may not seem to help much.
I know I’m not a ‘greenie’. Not really. I don’t know if I’ll ever be ‘green’ enough. But, I’d still rather throw my few cents in the hat than completely walk on by, pretending it isn’t there. Just like giving small change to a beggar on the street every now and then. I mean, I wish I can help every single person in need all the time. But, I know I can’t. That doesn’t mean I won’t try to give something small, even just some of the time, to someone in need.
The planet is like a beggar on the street at the moment, waiting for bits of help from anyone who’d care to stop and take the time to give something.
Recycling from the home. Supporting eco-friendly establishments. Buying energy efficient items. They don’t seem much…
But yeah, I’d like to believe that being aware of the problem and giving our own tiny contributions can make a difference. No matter how minuscule they may seem to be. A small difference is better than nothing, don’t you think? And, can you imagine what difference it’ll make if we all do something little every day?

It is hard knowing that our little contribution may make only a small differences compared to some major companies who don’t even seem to care. But it is nice when you realize there are thousands of others who are also making the same sacrifices that you are. Every little bit counts.
