I love my spicy food. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that one of the edible plants that I’m growing is a chilli plant. This one is supposed to be something called the birdseye variety, a Thai chilli. It’s meant to be very spicy.
I wanted to grow chillis not just because of the actual “fruit” (er, vegetable?!). I particularly need the plant’s leaves. Yes, leaves. They’re a great addition to one of my favourite Filipino dishes called Tinola.
Chillis are not too difficult to find here in Australia. But, chilli leaves… I’ve never seen them in the shops. That’s why I knew I needed to grow my own chilli plant.
Anyway, since taking this photo, I’ve already harvested a dozen or so chillis… and a few more chilli leaves. I’ve replanted it from its original pot to the blue pot that you see here. I’m a new gardener, so I’m just grateful that even after 8 months or so, my chilli plant is still alive and well.
