Blogging Networks and Nanopublishing

AboutWeblogs.com Blogging NetworkI’ve been thinking about nanopublishing for about a year now. But admittedly, I was looking at it more as a participant. That is, I was considering applying to become a blogger for Jason Calacanis’s Weblogsinc.com or Torsten Jacobi’s Creative-Weblogging.com – or even the the upcoming 9Rules network.

When I interviewed Jason a few months ago, I didn’t think about becoming one of those people “who may want to start their own small blogging empires.”

But, as I started working on my new site, AboutWeblogs.com a few weeks ago, the thought suddenly struck me: I love online publishing. I’ve been at it for years on a miniscule scale. I love blogging. I’ve been at it for years too. So, why not put them together?

It was a ‘duh’ kind of moment. As in, why didn’t I even think of that before?

I guess the thought was just a bit too daunting and I know I’d be forced out of my comfort zone. But then, nothing ventured nothing gained, right?

So, partly for experiment/research, partly as a business venture, and partly for the mere love of it, I started AboutWeblogs.com – the blogging network – from scratch. Well, it’s more like a mini-blogging network really — not an empire.

At this stage, I’ve got five active bloggers and three still “in the works.” There are ten “live” blogs, and maybe 4-5 blogs still coming up. This doesn’t include my other ‘main’ blogs – ShaiCoggins.com (this blog), ChrysalisCreativity.com, FreshWave.TV (video blog) and Shai in 60 Seconds (podcast).

Anyway, I’m just hoping to be able to document my experiences as a nanopublisher operating on a shoestring budget right here. So, stay tuned!

Thanks for the tips on blogging! I started my Spaces blog a few days after Christmas 2004 as a writing exercise, and I am really hooked.
I am considering starting another blog, with a different theme. I will be back to this blog and also to About.
