As a work-from-home entrepreneur, I get the special perk of having very little commuting time. But, it also means that I don’t get to go out and eat as often as I used to when I was working in an office in the city.
That’s why when I get meeting requests and catch-up opportunities, I enjoy going to new places (or even visiting some old favourites). It’s the brunch, lunch, or cuppa that I get to enjoy every couple of weeks or so.
Today, I was organising a meeting with a work-related contact who’s coming in from interstate. And, every time I searched for a venue, I kept finding myself on Yelp. So, I ended up checking my profile there.
As I read the couple of reviews that I posted there, it made me realise that I haven’t done any reviews here recently. I know I’ve been meaning to, but my content calendar for this blog has really gone to pot. Yes, shame on me. That’s why I thought I might try and remedy that bit by bit. Besides, I’m needing to find a way to reference places that I visit. And, one of the reasons that I blog is to keep a record of these things that I want to remember.
And, one of the places that I have been to recently is Argo Espresso on The Parade in Norwood. Apparently, they’re also in the city (Argo On The Square). It was recommended by a long-time work/local contact, Geoff Kwitko of StartUp Club Adelaide (Thanks again for the shout!).
Upon arriving in Argo, I immediately wondered if we were going to find anywhere to sit and have lunch. The place was buzzing! Fortunately, we managed to get the timing right, as a group left just before we gave up on the idea. We were also grateful to be able to sit outside as we’ve been craving for the sun in Adelaide lately. And, it was one of the first nice days in a while.
Anyway, Argo’s menu is substantial – with plenty of options for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Although the items are mostly very similar: burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, chips, juices, smoothies, etc. All highlighting beautiful local South Australian produce.
I ended up trying The Argus burger, with a side order of fries, and freshly squeezed orange juice.
Fell in-love with the fries and dip, as well as the orange juice. The burger was good too, though I ended up not too keen on the capsicum, and the patty was a little bit on the dry side for me. But, overall, it was still enjoyable even if I couldn’t finish the whole thing. Next time, though, I might try something else on the menu.
Anyway, in-between our talks on running businesses, start-up life, and general work matters, Geoff managed to give a thumbs up for the duck wrap that he ordered. It did look scrumptious. Almost made me wish I ordered that instead. But then, I tend to do that.
Prices are reasonable and the place makes you feel that you’re enjoying yourself in a modern, hip café. Service was great and efficient, even though they were busy. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in that part of town. Just be ready to wait – or beg – for a table.
You can also read the reviews of Argo on The Parade on Yelp. Mostly good stuff.
