My blogging schedule this month tells me that I’m supposed to be reviewing or recommending something today. Well, I thought I’ll skip that a bit and share about the upcoming Adelaide Bloggers’ (and Social Media Folk) Meet-up instead. Yes, we’ve got our fifth – and final – official meet-up of the year coming up this weekend. Well, at least the one that I help to organise anyway.
Yes, we’re having our end-of-the-year get-together at Vale Park this Sunday, 30th November 2008, 5-9pm. At Jim Manning‘s residence. If you’re keen to get the details, it’s available via our Meet-up page or our Facebook Event page.
It is really quite interesting how things have moved from hardly any blog/social media-related meet-ups from last year/early this year… to now having a few folks organising several different meet-ups all over Adelaide/South Australia. I think it’s great. And, I hope that the trend continues, so we can spread the love of social media more.
When I first started trying to organise something here in Adelaide in the last year or so, I barely managed to get a nibble of interest. When I finally pushed through with the first meet-up last January 2008, I think we ended up with about 6 people showing up (including myself). Then, things made a massive leap when the second meet-up in April came around. I think about 20+ folks showed up that night – and it was great.
The following meet-up in June was a bit smaller, more intimate. But, it was a good way to bond and to get closer as a group. The August get-together got a bit bigger again with some new folks, and a few “regulars” have become better friends.
Hopefully, this weekend’s party will be a great way to end the year with friends we’ve made this year through social media. And perhaps, even to meet and to celebrate with new ones. Just a quick look at the RSVP shows that the event is going to be interesting. So, we’ll see how it goes! In any case, I’ll keep you all posted.

This should be a fun event- I hope the proximity of another large social event doesn’t cut the numbers we can expect! I’m going to be pretty much out of stamina, as will Spotrick with the evening wedding in McLaren Vale the day before. However, the staminae of the Plurkers attending the other event will probably be better than ours! It’s a funny mixture, this group- there are very few ‘serious’ bloggers, quite a few casual bloggers, a whole swathe of people taking advantage of the real-life connectedness of sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Plurk and even a few (I reckon…) who’ll take anything they can get!! Hehe!! I’m sure all attendees will have a great time and hope we don’t wreck Jimbob’s house!

I’m looking forward to this. Will be bringing the family with me so they can see who it is I spend so much time chatting to on Plurk!

@Kay – Looks like it was the other way around. The Plurker folks ended up more trashed.
Anyway, I’m glad we still ended up with a decent turn-out. Missed a few folks, but good to meet new ones, as always.
We’ll see what 2009 brings us! Thanks again for being there to 4 out of 5 meet-ups in 2008. Should’ve given you, Spotrick, Charlie, Jim, and Melissa awards for that.
@Trevor – LOL
@Melissa – It was great to see you again too! And loved meeting the family. Thanks so much for being there.
