52WoC#27: Blog Birthdays/Anniversaries

52 Weeks of Blog CommunityEight years ago, on the 24th of August, I registered the ShaiCoggins.com domain. Since then, this site has evolved and transformed in so many ways. But, I realised that for some crazy reason, I’ve NEVER celebrated a blog birthday/anniversary here. I kept telling myself that I will do it this year, but I still didn’t get to do so on the day. But, I suppose, late celebrations can still happen, right?

So, for this round of 52WoC (for Virtual Party #7), I will hold a belated celebration for S Studio.

What do you need to do to join the party? Just take part in ANY 52WoC task for this round (Tasks #27 – #30). And, you’ll be eligible to be part of the party, where I’ll be giving away EIGHT things. Yes, one for each year of existence of ShaiCoggins.com (S Studio). :-)

I’ll be revealing the 8 Things to be given away in the next few weeks. Cool?

Now, on to 52WoC#27 – It’s simple. As this task marks the beginning of our birthday/anniversary celebrations, I thought you can share with us YOUR blog’s birthday or anniversary. Tell us the date/number of years of your blog’s existence. Do you do anything special when your blog turns a year older?

Looking forward to finding out all about your blog’s special day.

Now, read on to see more about last week’s task, 52WoC#26…

Thanks again to all of these folks who added 52WoC buttons to their blogs!

Special welcome to new 52WoCer, Will. You all will be part of our Virtual Party #6.

And, even though 52WoC #26′s done, everyone’s still invited to spread the word about 52WoC.

Until next time…

My very first blog entry for Wifely Steps was July 17, 2003 (wifelysteps.blogspot.com!). That’s its official blog birthday! :) I celebrated my blog birthday a few months early though to coincide with my wedding anniversary last May. :) It’s a blast going through all the old entries. I’ve changed so little and so much.

Happy blog birthday Shai! Your blog is an inspiration. YOU are an inspiration. I look forward to reading more, more and more from the S Studio. :)

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

Thanks, Toni. It is a blast checking out archives, isn’t it? And you also inspire me. :)

My first post was on April 11th, 2004, making my site 4 years old. I always mean to do something on that day, but always forget.

Now that you mention it, I just glanced back through my archives, and I have never made a post on 4/11 since 2004…

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

@Will: Interesting how we forget the anniv/birthdays of our blogs, isn’t it?

  3. Kari says:

Happy Blogiversary to you! Here’s to many more years of success at Shai Coggins dot com!

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

Thanks, Kari. You wanna share your blog birthday/anniv too? ;-)

I started my current blog in October 2005 but because Daisy was only 6 months old at the time I simply didn’t have the time to maintain it. I also still had a blog on a ‘gated’ site at the time (a paid site relating to a specific group of people) and I just didn’t feel the need to do anything at Blogger. Fast forward a year (7 June 2006) and things had changed. I had left the other site, Daisy was over a year old and I had the time/motivation. I planned to have a bloggiversary this year but things just got in the way. I have a pile of prizes to give away still so I’m thinking of just having a giveaway at some point, perhaps to celebrate my birthday.

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

Hey, Melissa. Good on ‘ya for getting back to it. :) And good luck with your future celebration. Sounds great!

Shai, I started my blog 4 and a half years ago. It started out on Typepad and I bought my own domain just over a year ago. I celebrate my blogiversary every year by announcing it on my blog and reflecting what’s changed over the last year.

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

That’s a great way to celebrate, Jen. Maybe I’ll do that one of these days too. It’s impossible to do a comprehensive one, but a summary type perhaps. :)

  6. Em Dy says:

My first post was published March 15, 2007 and I’ve been blogging daily since.

    Happy anniversary Shai!

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

@Em Dy: Wow. That’s dedication! Yay you.

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

Nice to hear from you, Blue Rose. And welcome to 52WoC! Updating your blog should feel natural to you. It doesn’t matter if it’s daily, weekly, or monthly… :)

  8. Nicola says:

I have never celebrated my blogversary, it completely passes me by, but the other day I noticed I’d been blogging for just over two years! Does not feel like that long at all. I think I was also heading to around 200 posts at some stage and thought ‘wow, what a milestone’, and now I don’t even know if I’ve reached it! I’m logging in right now to give you the 411 tho….

    First post: 17/6/06
And I’m nowhere near 200 posts lol, 166 posts.
    Happy Blogversary ShaiCoggins dot com!

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

    That’s a great record, Nicola. Congrats! :-)

  9. Lynn Stevens says:

You know how when you’re in a new relationship, you note even the smallest of benchmarks, that’s how it’s been for me and my blog. I’ve noted (“celebrated” is a stretch) both the 1 month and 3 month anniversaries of my blog’s 5/19/08 creation by getting the word out via email and asking folks to participate and spread the word, like this last week:

“It’s the three month anniversary of my first blog post. Would love to hear your thoughts, and please forward it on to whomever you think might be interested in Logan Square, revitalization or urban issues.

Or forward it on to folks you know have a creative bent. Even folks unfamiliar with the area or urban issues can do the innovation exercise and comment on the specific post at: Speak up and tell us. I think it’s a fun way to shift your thinking and get your creative juices flowing.”

You creatives might test the flow of your juices too! :->

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

That’s a good analogy, Lynn. :) Except I’ve never celebrated any annivs at all in my blog. Just let it all slide. Just as well my blog can’t break up with me, huh? :-D

  10. Jami says:

My blog’s first anniversary was on July 4th, 2008. I held a giveaway each week for the entire month. It was exhausting, but worth it in the end. I also posted extra polls for my readers and launched some new features. And I picked up an extra 100 readers in that month alone. So in the end, exhausting but worth it. I took a week off afterwards, lol!

    Happy 8 years, Shai!!

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

Thanks, Jami. And wow on that incredible celebration. Great that it all paid off in the end.

  11. Ivan Girl says:

    Happy Blog Anniversary, Shai!

Anyway, I first bumped into your blog via RBJ. In fact, I have somehow seen how your blog had evolved.

I would love to join this project of yours. I used to have an old blog and posted my first entry in January 23, 2003 and when I claimed this blog, I posted in May 31, 2003. Guess I will be celebrating during the month of May (it’s my birth month, too).

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

Wow – great to hear from you, Ivan Girl. :) So, you’ve been with ShaiCoggins.com for a while now, huh? Thank YOU! And welcome to 52WoC!

  12. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BLOGIVERSARY!
I think it’s amazing how you and others keep writing something quite regularly. I am completely without a blog routine and don’t seem inclined to establish one currently. Perhaps when the rest of my life becomes more regular or my brain agrees to an artificially imposed routine! I can’t quite get the participatory thing either- giving prizes or stuff hadn’t occurred to me as a blogging activity. I can’t figure out how you work furiously even though you’re ill- I’ve never been able to do that- I just sort of expire in a corner and emerge a week or so later, looking for the threads of life I lost track of! I’ll keep trying to gather some inspiration from you and the other more regular bloggers.

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

Thanks, Kay. Yeah – you just do what feels best for you. Everything – from posting to participating. I love it all, so I’m all here. :-D In terms of working through feeling sick – I just know that if I don’t, I’ll be sooo behind. But, I do take time to rest when my body says so. ;-) Again, thanks!

  13. Christine says:

Hi shai…my first time to join your 52WOC :-) Congrats on your blogiversary by the way!

So now my turn to share. I started my blog in February 2004 and gosh, it has been 4.5 years since that fateful day in February. I started with the free blog sites before purchasing my own domain name. I haven’t really been blogging on my personal blog because i’ve been busy with other non-online stuff PLUS maintaining my pro blogs! :-)

I haven’t really celebrated my blogiversary but perhaps next year, when it turns 5 y/o, I will and perhaps, run a contest too. I’ve bookmarked your post re running contest tips and such. I’ve been using it as a guide for the contest I’ve run (and been running) on my pro blogs.

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

Woohoo, Christine! And welcome to 52WoC! Thanks so much for your continuous support and friendship all these years. Really, really appreciate it. You rock! And congrats on all your blogging success too. :-)

  14. Nenette says:

Despite being online since the late ’80s, I jumped on the blogging bandwagon quite recently.
When I first started my blog, it wasn’t LifeCandy yet… it started off as crondance.blogspot.com in March 2007, as a health and nutrition blog… I changed the name to mybodythetemple.blogspot.com sometime in the summer… but on October 2007, I officially took on the lifecandy.net domain name, pointed it to my blog, and turned it into my “sweet & spicy life” blog.
So, I started blogging in March ’07, but celebrate the birth of LifeCandy in October…
One year next month!… where did the time go?

Shai Coggins reply on September 3rd, 2008:

Advanced congrats, Nenette! And incredible to note all those changes, isn’t it? Thanks again. :)
