I try very hard to reply to people’s comments, either via a comment on my own blog post or visiting them at their blog. I must admit that I do fail at this sometimes and have done so a bit recently. I discovered that moving to Bigpond meant all my blog comments were no longer being emailed to me (thanks to their crappy spam filter) but now I’ve fixed that.

Well, that may require further explanation as to how it highlights them. For, example, I participated in a steering committee for a neighborhood project, and I asked a couple of my commenters if they would like to also participate. This got them involved with and known for a project they probably would not otherwise have had the opportunity to.

I also try to respond to each comment, and have based a whole post on a comment. Because my blog is so locally focused, I’ve made a point to meet in person with several of my commenters.

I make sure I get to know everyone who comments on my blog, usually by visiting their blog, and I often reply to comments through twitter. I also have limks in my sidebar to the most recent posts from blogs I follow, but I like the idea of a commenters widget.
