52WoC #45: Highlight Your Commenters

52 Weeks of Blog CommunityHaving two 52 Weeks of Blog Community tasks in one week feels very strange. And yet, it’s true. Since this is probably the quickest-held task in all of 52WoC history, I thought I’d break tradition and share our list of participants earlier in the post.

So, here are our 52WoC #44: Your Blogging Beginnings participants -

Thanks again to our fabulous participants for completing this task! It was great reading about each one’s blogging beginnings. Of course, you will all be part of our 52WoC virtual party #9, which I’m hoping to hold in the next day or so.

Now, on to 52WoC#45!

As you can read in the title, this is about highlighting your commenters. I’m not sure what kind of practice you’ve got on your blogs to do this. So, if you can share (via comments) how you help to highlight and/or thank the commenters on your blog, then consider yourself joined in this task.

For example, as I mentioned in the past, some of the ways that I highlight my commenters include:

  • Using a Top Commentators plugin that display the names of my top commenters for the month in my sidebar, with a link to their respective blogs/sites, if they have any.
  • Responding to each comment as much as possible (I still miss some of ‘em sometimes, I must admit).
  • Visiting my top commenters’ blogs, and leaving comments on their blogs when I get the chance.
  • Sometimes, I write about them on my blog (e.g., “Tell Me About You” project).

These are just some of my practices and ideas. What about you?

If you don’t have a way of highlighting your commenters, try to think of one or two, implement them, then tell us all about it.

Now, since I’d like to practise what I preach, please read on as I highlight this month’s Top Commenters at the Studio -

#1 – Kari – One of our best and most loyal Studio friend leads the pack.

#2 – Melissa W – Another wonderful friend here at the Studio.

#3 – Sue Silverman – Probably the very first time that a guest of the week (see interview) ever made it to the top commentators list. Yay.

#4 – blue rose – One of our special regulars at the Studio.

#5 – Kay – A good friend also made it to the list!

#6 – Glenda – Someone I just ‘met’ online, she’s another cool creative geek.

#7 – Rachel Cotterill – Although she may be relatively new to the Studio, this fab creative geek has become a real wonderful part of our community.

#8 – Christine – A good, long-time online buddy and real friend.

#9 – Christy Matta – Also a new buddy that we have the pleasure of having with us here.

A special shout-out goes out to Carrie, who didn’t have a link to leave with us when she commented.

Thanks again to everyone who leaves comments and shares feedback here at the Studio. It is always a pleasure to hear from you. Your comments really make my day. :-)

Ditto with Blue Rose – thank you Shai! I will have to test out a top commenter plugin perhaps. I’ve never used one, but it’s definitely something I could give a whirl!

As far as my commenters go, I usually make the rounds and return the comment. Or depending on what sort of post I’m doing, it may be something which allows me to link to them within the post.

I make sure I get to know everyone who comments on my blog, usually by visiting their blog, and I often reply to comments through twitter. I also have limks in my sidebar to the most recent posts from blogs I follow, but I like the idea of a commenters widget.

I also try to respond to each comment, and have based a whole post on a comment. Because my blog is so locally focused, I’ve made a point to meet in person with several of my commenters.

Well, that may require further explanation as to how it highlights them. For, example, I participated in a steering committee for a neighborhood project, and I asked a couple of my commenters if they would like to also participate. This got them involved with and known for a project they probably would not otherwise have had the opportunity to.

I try very hard to reply to people’s comments, either via a comment on my own blog post or visiting them at their blog. I must admit that I do fail at this sometimes and have done so a bit recently. I discovered that moving to Bigpond meant all my blog comments were no longer being emailed to me (thanks to their crappy spam filter) but now I’ve fixed that.

Thanks, everyone! I’m about to do the round-up. Nice to see how you all give thanks and highlight your top commenters. I’m also looking forward to finding out other ways of doing this. Thanks again!

I wish I could find the time to write consistantly at my blog, on a day to day basis, like you do. Nicely done! I look forward to your additional article.
