Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to be there to help motivate someone at one time or another? How did you handle it? Do you believe that it’s possible to help others to become better? How do you encourage others to be the best that they can possibly be?
Tough questions. And, like most tough things, I don’t believe that there’s any secret formula or recipe. There are no straight answers.
However, I recently came across some quotes from various sources that offer some good advice. They’re not comprehensive nor are they *the* last word on motivation. But, I found them interesting and inspiring when it comes to finding ways to motivate others. So, I thought I’d share them with you too. Hopefully, you can take something from them too.
To motivate someone, you must…
1) Inspire and be inspired.
“Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be.” ~ Emerson
2) Trust the person.
“The only way to make a man trustworthy is to trust him; and the surest way to make him untrustworthy is to distrust him and show your mistrust.” ~ Henry L. Stimson
3) Find what excites them, what lights them up, what drives them… Lead them towards those things!
“The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.” ~ Ferdinand Foch
4) Expect good things from them.
“If people know we expect good things from them, they will in most cases go to great lengths to live up to our expectations.” ~ Alan Loy McGinnis
5) Treat them as if they’re already living their potential.
“Treat a man as he appears to be, and you make him worse. But treat a man as if he already were what he potentially could be, and you make him what he should be.” ~ Goethe
Can you think of other ways on how to motivate other people? Perhaps, you’d like to share some of your favourite quotes on motivation too.

One more thing dat i learned is just let them know 2 things: First that they do have lots of positive attributes and secondly they can be effective enough if they rectify their shortcomings too.
